Block 5 post your comments here

  • Be sure to bring your revised literacy vignette to class on Tuesday with the peer review sheet and a copy of an earlier draft.
  • In the comments section please answer the following question: What did you learn from peer review? How could we make peer review more useful in the future?

  1. I thought this was an interesting exercise that allowed others to express their opinions about a piece of writing. I found the different things that each person picked up on were helpful. It would be better if each group had a peer reviewer though.

  2. By having someone read my pieces aloud i realized many flaws that i would not have picked up on by reading it in my head. I found the peer review to be effective and received good feedback both positive and negative that will aid my writing. I think peer review could be made better by having an older student with more experience in the class or subject give feedback as they have already completed the course and may have more knowledge on the subject.

  3. I thought that the peer review was a helpful exercise. It allowed me to see what others thought of my writing, and how i could make it better. Without the help of others I think I might not have been able to clean up my mistakes. Not everyone had an expert to help critique them, so next time I think that everyone should have someone in their group who has experience in this area.

  4. I thought the peer review was a good exercise because it allowed someone with an unbiased opinion to read the writing and allowed the author to make the necessary corrections. I think the process could be improved by having someone who is older with more experience be the reviewer. It would also be improved if each person had their own reviewer because it allows for more detailed revision.

  5. I thought the peer review was a good idea because it let us see what other people besides our classmates thought about our writing. One thing I did not like was the peer review sheet about what they said about our vignettes. While other people could fill theirs out I was unable to because the peer reviewer only had positive things to say and no negatives.

  7. I think peer review is a great tool for us. It helped me see my mistakes and what I could add to my piece to make it better. Also it was good because it was from someone else's point of view other than my own. For the future, if possible, I think it would be a great benefit to have a peer editor to one person so they can have their full attention.

  8. By having my vignettes get read by another voice outside of my mind made my missed errors shine through. This realization allowed me to fix the errors I made so that my final was as good as it could be.

  10. I found the peer review helpful. By having different people read my writing, I felt the feedback opened a lot of areas in where I can now improve my writing. Each person had something different to say, and that helped a lot when revising my work.

  11. I got some good feedback from the peer review. Having someone else read it gave me a different perspective for the reader. I feel like the little details that I put in after the peer review were definitely worth it. I hope it will work out better for all the groups in future classes.

  13. I thought that the peer review was helpful. Getting other people opinions really helped see where the vignettes needed work. It was also nice to here good qualities about your writing, It was useful when revising too see which parts were good or what needed to be changed.

  14. There were certain things about the peer review session that helped and others that didn't. Meeting with the peer reviewers helped me understand my strong suits and I learned about certain literary strategies I was using without even realizing I was using them. One thing I would change about my personal meeting was that I didn't receive a lot of criticism on my peices it was mainly just compliments of what I was doing write and I wanted to know about what I could improve on instead.

  15. From doing the peer review I learned how other people read and interpret my writing. It helps you, the writer, get a better sense of how your writing techniques are recognized by the reader and how effective they are. I liked this activity because of that, to make it more useful, maybe we could do a review at the beginning stage of the piece and near the end of it, like we did.
