  1. 1. How come Tim refers to Lemon as only Rat's friend, but he saw him die? Was he never close to Lemon and only Rat?
    2. Even though Tim goes into depth about how to tell if a war story is true does he admit that he fabricated part of his story?

    1. When most concluded that Mary Anne was lost in the mountains somewhere, does anyone actually know where she is, maybe the closest person to her?
    2. Did Mary Anne ever physically or actually cheat on Fossie?
    3. Were the Green Berets typically mentally disturbed as Mary Anne demonstrated when she was a part of that group towards the end?

  11. Is the story of Mary Anne a factual one or just used to express how dramatically war can change people?

    Why would it help Rat to cope by hurting something so innocent? Why didn't any of the men try and stop him from torturing the animal? Was that a made up story?

    Rat Kiley said when he was telling the story that he loved Mary Anne, and remembered the story very sadly and made sure to get the details about her just right. Is Mark Fossie real or was it really Rat Kiley in his story?

  20. 1. It is clear that Mark Fossie does not love Mary Anne as much as he used to, does Mary Anne know this? Has Mary Anne lost feelings for him too after her change?
    2. Why do the soldiers want to watch the innocent baby buffalo die a slow and painful death? Does event have any relationship to the soldiers lives?
    3. Does his sister not write back because he sent it to the wrong address? Or could she have recently passed away and he didn't know about it?

    - Is Mary Anne really just the soldiers' innocence personified?
    - If Mary is truly a personification of their innocence, what happened to the preconceived notion that her and Mark were engaged? What does this truly mean?
    - When they state that "she is ready for the kill", do they mean that she is ready to end up getting a soldier killed? It has been mentioned in the story prior to this that men with morals often died.

    "How to Tell a True War Story"
    - Was the unnecessary brutality exerted on the buffalo a message about how the soldiers truly felt about the war? Hopeless, wanting revenge, brutal?
    - Was his reiteration regarding lack of morals a homage to the first chapter where Ted ends up dead because of Cross's infatuation?
    - Does Curt's sister not write back because she is burdened with immense grief?
